Group Video

The poem my partner, Bryant, and I chose was "Annabel Lee" by Edgar Allan Poe. "Annabel Lee" is one of Poe's better-known and highly regarded poems. In this poem, the narrator describes how his love, Annabel Lee, is taken from him because the love between them is so powerful that it makes the angels jealous. Since these aspects of the poem are very hard to film, we went with a more artistic approach. We did not use any actors, but rather used nature. The majority of our movie was filmed in Woodland Cemetery on campus. These clips include shots of tombstones, flowers, and the landscape of the cemetery. Bryant was also able to get a good amount of shots of a lake, which we use to represent "the kingdom by the sea," the setting of "Annabel Lee," where the narrator and his love lived happily together. Although we did not want our video to be considered cliche, we decided that having our clips be in black and white would be the best way to represent this poem, since this poem as well as the vast majority of Poe's works are colorless and morbid. Finally, at the end of the video, there is a brief portrayal of Annabel Lee wading into the sea that we obtained from CreativeCommons.com.
